Frequently Asked Questions
Player Rankings in MLB The Show 26
How ShowZone's Top 25 rankings work and what the ratings mean.
ShowZone's Top 25 rankings use True Overall™ and Meta Overall ratings rather than the in-game overall number. True Overall™ recalculates each card's rating with a position-weighted formula, while Meta Overall factors in the current gameplay meta. You can toggle between True and Meta on each position ranking page.
True Overall™ uses a transparent, position-weighted formula to recalculate every card's rating — so a shortstop isn't graded the same way as a designated hitter. Meta Overall builds on that by factoring in the current online gameplay meta, accounting for things like pitch speeds, swing animations, and how effective a card actually plays. A card can have a high True Overall™ but a lower Meta Overall if it doesn't play well online.
Rankings update automatically whenever San Diego Studio releases a roster update, typically on Fridays. ShowZone syncs the new ratings as soon as they go live, so the Top 25 lists always reflect the latest cards and attribute changes. Check the player database to see full details on any card.
Yes — each position and category page has a toggle to switch between the current game and all-time rankings. All-time rankings compare cards across every MLB The Show title, so you can see how today's best stack up against cards from previous years.
Pitch type rankings (like Best Sinkers or Best Sliders) rank pitchers by how effective a specific pitch is based on its velocity, break, and control ratings combined. This helps you find pitchers with elite individual pitches, not just the best overall pitching cards.
Batting rankings are split by handedness (switch, left, right) and style (power, contact, balanced). Power rankings prioritize raw power attributes, contact rankings favor plate vision and contact ratings, and balanced rankings combine both. This helps you find the right card for your hitting approach.
