The newest Event in MLB The Show 23 is the first of what should be several Moonshot variants. It’s a PXP grinder’s dream as you can take your beefiest hitters into Coors Field and blast moonshot after moonshot off Common pitchers. Since you’re facing Common pitchers, you can expect success with pretty much any hitters you have in your collection. Today though – we’re going to show you how to use ShowZone’s filter in the Player Database to put together the best Meta Overall team in Events.
How to Filter the Player Database
Using the filter within the Database is pretty easy.
First, from the main landing page at showzone.gg, navigate to the “Players” dropdown in the top left and select “Player Database.”
You’ll now be looking at the main landing for the “Player Database” where every card in the game is ranked by True Overall by default.
Click the “Filter” option (the 3rd red button from the left).
Scroll down to “Event Eligible” and simply toggle “Yes.”
Now, you have the option of sorting by any criteria you choose. For the Moonshot Event, we’ll sort by all pitchers by selecting “SP, RP, CP” in the “Primary Position” box.
Scroll all the way down to “Apply Filters” and now you can see every card that is Event eligible and start building your squad!
You can use this filter for every single Event to generate the best possible squad in real time and give yourself an edge against the competition.
Meta Overall Hitters

Using the same filter set to capture position players, this was the absolute best squad you could generate as of April 23. Not many surprises here considering there are no restrictions for hitters. Moonshot Events are typically the best time to really grind PXP. Even if you own the best cards in the game, you can make great use of the Event parameters and your time to grind out PXP for missions or to get your favorite cards paralleled.

Here’s the rotation and bullpen generated using the same filter that we described above. An important note about how Metal Overall is calculated. Pitching attributes, Quirks and pitch-mix are all considered in the calculation. This will save you time as you won’t have to constantly search the Commons for pitchers with meta pitches. All that work is done for you using ShowZone.
Rewards
There’s a traditional collection of reward throughout the reward path but we’re going to highlight a couple in particular.

The first Event Rewind pack of the year is included at the 10 win mark in the reward path. Notably, there’s a big change to this choice pack – it’s no-sell. That means you’ll be able to pick up cards you might have missed, but you won’t be able to sell them on the market for Stubs. If you already own the Event cards and you plan on grinding Events all year, this is a good opportunity to off-load them for a higher profit and then simply retake the card in the Rewind pack. It’s inevitable that we get the big Legends and Flashbacks collections again this year, so padding out your binder with as many cards in as many sets is possible will be a necessity.
This will dampen Stub generation for folks who used this method last year. I think it’s a perfectly fine change, however, since it still allows players that missed out on cards to pick them up without spending a ton of Stubs. It should also keep the cards at a fairly stable price, at least for the first half of the game cycle. I’m curious as to whether SDS will slowly introduce multiple of these Rewind packs in each Event.
Home Run Derby Dante Bichette

Clocking in as the 20-win reward is Home Run Derby series Dante Bichette. Keeping in mind that these Home Run Derby series reward cards aren’t the greatest, Bichette barely cracks the top-15 RF if you exclude Supercharged cards. This will be a fun card for Rockies’ fans or a potential DH for no-money spent players, but nothing to write home about outside of collection fodder.
Home Run Derby Todd Helton

The 25-win reward honor goes to fellow Colorado Rockie Todd Helton. This Helton is actually a top-6 1B in Meta Overall so a worthy reward for the grind. It’s not a prototypical Helton card since it lacks Contact, but the boosted Power and serviceable Fielding makes this a decent enough 1B for players with needs at the position.
That’s a quick breakdown of the Event with some highlighted rewards! What squad are you taking into the Moonshot Event? Let us know in the comments below!
