Battle Royale's Flawless Choice Pack rewards have refreshed in MLB The Show 25.
The latest rewards feature an All-Star Outfielder and Gold Glove Catcher.
Let's take a look.
All-Star CF Andre Dawson (Washington Nationals)

First up is The Hawk - Andre Dawson.
Dawson gets a chance to shine early this season and this version of him is decent. Part of the issue is that "decent" usually doesn't cut it in regards to Battle Royale rewards. To go flawless in MLB The Show (10-0 in a singular BR run) requires incredible skill, concentration, and above all else - patience.
It's quite the grind and almost becomes a self-sweat contest if you find yourself in the middle of a solid run. To me, a solid BR reward is a card whose attributes jump off the card respective to their position. When you look at this Dawson card, I'm not sure that really happens.
Then again, even with adjustments coming in the background for Meta Overall and True Overall - Dawson still ranks as Top 6 in both. That places him as one of the elite CF in the game. When you think about it, it's perfectly reasonable that a card like this that's damn near perfectly balanced across the board would be a top option. Look around MLB or even to the past for former players. How many players can you think of that were really good players that you'd want on your team? You can look around the league now and name guys that would seem like good additions without diving deep into analytics.
That's kinda what this feels like. Dawson as a 90 overall makes sense when you factor all of this in. When it comes to name value, superstar status, or general DD popularity he might fall short. We've become enamored with Contact, Power, Clutch, K/9, H/9, BB/9 and for good reason - they seem to be the most important attributes.
But are they? Is it likelier that SDS would intentionally release a "bad" card in a premium mode like BR, or likelier that we don't necessarily see the full scope of how they're designing the cards?
I don't know the answer, but I'd sure love a deep-dive into the mechanics of the game relative to the attributes. It would really add some perspective to this conversation.
Awards C Jonah Heim (Texas Rangers)

On the other hand, this Jonah Heim card has that "sex appeal" that Dawson might lack. Heim lacks any Quirks while Dawson has several key offensive ones, including Dead Red which boosts attributes against fastballs. Learning more about Quirks could really help with that whole "attribute-gameplay breakdown" lesson from SDS I'd like to see.
We can discern they have a significant enough effect seeing as they exist and are displayed. Despite Heim not having any, we can look at the attributes and see that he's easily a starting Catcher for many teams.
With 111 Clutch, Heim turns into a machine with runners in scoring position. Relatively low Power against LHP won't make him unusable, and the interesting splits between Power and Contact play interestingly into his make-up as a switch-hitter.
A Diamond fielder at Parallel 1, Heim is a solid offensive option according to surface level attributes. His ridiculously low Speed at 23 is a red flag for me, however. I value Speed in the sense that I want to limit the number of slower players I have on the basepaths. With Heim's massive Clutch rating, he's someone I would happily slot into the cleanup spot and swing for the fences with.
