As the years have ticked by, one of the remaining requests from many in The Show community is a bonafide PC version. It was only a few years ago that The Show finally went cross-platform, appearing on Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles in addition to the established PlayStation releases. This makes Sony's baseball title an outlier, as every other major sports game also appears on PC.
A recent job posting at SDS may signal a change on the horizon.
A New World?
On PlayStation's official careers site, a new job posting has been listed for a Senior Graphics PC Programmer at San Diego Studio. San Diego Studio (SDS), of course, is the developer of MLB The Show. Perhaps a pretty straightforward indication that a PC version of The Show is in development, or will be in the near future.
This certainly sounds exciting for those of us that have been wanting a PC version. PCs are typically more powerful and capable than gaming consoles, even with the advanced hardware currently available. This could potentially mean increased graphics and visual fidelity, improved framerates, and open a whole world of potential mod-support that could usher in a huge influx of Franchise related immersion and depth.
But is this job posting a guarantee?
Caution in the Wind

SDS has exclusively worked on The Show for years now, which supports the notion that this could be a subtle confirmation. However, SDS has released a non-baseball game previously.
Back in 2009, SDS developed Pinball Heroes, which was a pinball video game featuring boards themed around PlayStation games. That game was then ported to the PlayStation Vita in 2013, and then re-released for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
So, it's not out of the question that another project could be the impetus behind the job listing. But when you consider that MLB The Show is the only publicly known AAA-title that SDS is involved with, the signs redirect right back to an upcoming MLB The Show release on PC.
Does It Even Matter?
For many of us - yes.
As mentioned above, PCs can push a lot more power which could support the game in looking and running better than we've ever seen. Assuming the game isn't completely locked out from mod support, an entire community could then band together and develop mods that would further enhance the experience. We're talking insanely detailed custom rosters, featuring every player in MLB history; even if they aren't "officially" in the game. This would only apply to offline modes like Franchise, but it would be an incredible amount of energy injected into the stalest Franchise mode in sports gaming.
Beyond that, we could see a vast array of new custom stadium tools and kits. This would expand the possibilities for custom stadiums, as well as bring classic stadiums back to life. Uniforms, equipment, sponsors, sound effects, and anything else imaginable could bring a level of immersion and freshness that we simply do not see in the yearly releases.
There are plenty of concerns about potential cross-platform multiplayer issues, as hacking and cheating are very prominent on PC and harder to stop.
For me, I would happily play The Show offline on PC just to get the enhanced offline experience and stick to console for Diamond Dynasty if I needed to. Only time will tell if we actually see The Show on PC, but it's never seemed likelier. With MLB The Show 26 mere months away, we might not have to wait too long to find out.
