Frequently Asked Questions
A Captain card is a Diamond Dynasty card that applies tiered attribute boosts to other cards in your lineup that match its eligibility filter (a specific team, country, era, or card series). Each Captain has Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 boost levels — the higher the tier, the larger the boost, but the more eligible players you have to field to unlock it. ShowZone's Captain rankings above grade every Captain in MLB The Show 26 on a 0-99 scale that weighs boost magnitude, eligible-pool size, and how the boosted attributes perform in the online meta.
By ShowZone's 0-99 Captain rating, the current #1 in MLB The Show 26 is the Hal Newhouser Captain (Detroit Tigers) at 99.0. Eligibility: Players from the Detroit Tigers. Captain boosts are tiered: Tier 1 activates with a small number of eligible players in your lineup, Tier 2 activates with more, and Tier 3 requires the most. Each tier increases the boost magnitude on specific attributes (Contact, Power, Vision, Plate Discipline, etc.) — the boosts only apply to lineup cards that match the Captain's eligibility filter. The Captain card itself counts toward its own eligible-player requirement when it satisfies the filter. Click into any Captain's detail page from the rankings table to see the exact attribute boosts at each tier.
Every Captain has an eligibility filter — typically a team (e.g., "New York Yankees players"), country/birthplace (e.g., "Dominican-Republic-born players"), or card series (e.g., "Live Series cards"). Players who match the filter count toward unlocking the Captain's boost tiers and receive the boosted attribute values. The sr-only table above shows each Captain's filter inline; the per-Captain detail page lists every eligible card with their current ratings and market price.
Yes — Diamond Dynasty gives you two Captain slots per team: one filled by a position-player Captain card and one filled by a pitcher Captain card. Most Captain cards' boosts apply to BOTH hitters and pitchers in your lineup that match the Captain's eligibility filter (a hitter Captain doesn't only boost hitters) — so stacking a hitter Captain and a pitcher Captain compounds two full boost stacks across your roster. The two Captains' eligibility filters don't need to match each other; pick whichever pair maximizes coverage of the cards you actually field. Sort the rankings table above by rating and filter to find both anchors.
Captain cards in MLB The Show 26 are primarily earned through program reward paths, not bought on the marketplace. The most common source is the Team Affinity program — each MLB team's Team Affinity track typically rewards that team's Captain card at a milestone tier. SDS also releases additional Captains as rewards in seasonal program drops and Postseason content throughout the year. A small subset of Captains are tradeable on the marketplace after release, but most have to be earned through the in-game grind. Click any Captain in the rankings above to see its drop source on the detail page.
ShowZone Pro members can sync their MLB The Show 26 Diamond Dynasty inventory, then every Captain detail page marks which of that Captain's eligible cards are already in their collection. The sync also surfaces a "best Captain for your inventory" recommendation based on how many of your owned cards match each Captain's filter — turns the rankings table from a generic list into a personalized priority queue. Free users see the same Captain rankings without the inventory overlay.
San Diego Studio releases new Captain cards throughout the MLB The Show 26 content cycle — typically with each major roster update (roughly every three weeks) and with seasonal programs. Existing Captains' ratings can shift as the eligible-player pool changes (new cards entering or aging out of the filter). ShowZone re-runs the Captain rating calculation after every roster update so the rankings above always reflect the latest state.
