Weekend Classic is shaping up to be the fresh injection of competitiveness we've been waiting on. A swath of divisions determined by your Solo Ranked score that, placement via your rating, and a chance to earn sweet rewards through your first 6 games.
What is Weekend Classic?
Weekend Classic is a competitive, limited-time online mode that runs specifically over a set time period. Players will enter with their DD squads and match up against others players like usual, except the potential rewards depend on the division placement.
- Divisions: 100-player leaderboards based on your Ranked Seasons Solo rating.
- Matchmaking: Opponents are determined by your current Ranked rating and Weekend Classic division. You won’t only face players in your specific leaderboard, meaning lower-division players can still match up with World Series or better players.
- Locked Divisions: Your division is based on your highest Solo rating, and once WC starts, you’re locked in.
- Scaled Rewards: The better your division and the more games you win (especially early), the better the rewards. Going 6-0 right out the gate offers exceptional prize packs.
Weekend Classic Rewards
Rewards scale up the higher you go on the divisional plane.

In the above screenshot, we're looking at Bronze 1 which features players with a Solo rating of 0-399. The rewards labeled "Games 1 through 6" details what you can win within that initial selection of games. Going 6-0 would net you all rewards listed, and any combination of wins will stack the rewards up to the number of wins achieved.
Below this, you'll see the payout for leaderboard finishes. Players 6-10 will earn a Show pack, players 2-5 will earn 3 Show packs, and the #1 player in this division will earn 10 Show packs. Remember: you get a Show pack for each win during the Weekend Classic. Regardless of how you perceive your skills, this is a really good way to get into the online sphere of MLB The Show and start adjusting to online pitch speeds and gameplay.
Weekend Classic Choice Pack Includes:
89 overall SS Carlos Correa (Houston Astros)

89 overall SP Corey Kluber (Cleveland Guardians)

In Short
- Short Burst Competition: Runs through 4/15.
- Jam-Packed Rewards: Packs for wins with stackable tiered rewards that scale the higher your ranking and division.
- Highly Requested: Community sentiment around this kind of mode has been strong. Calls for a Weekend League-style mode date back several years and we finally get a taste of it. The format appears quite enticing and locked in from the beginning, so this first Classic wrapping up will give us a lot of information.
Closing Thoughts
This is a huge step in the right direction for competitive MLB The Show. Not only does this give the uber-competitive players a chance to chase legit, high-end rewards; it gives the rest of us a chance to earn some extra goodies without feeling the need to chase.
Any competitive setting can bring out the worst in us and all things. The nature of the Weekend Classic promotes players sticking to their true selves and doesn't require senseless grinding just to participate.
