NCAA branding is indeed confirmed. The trailer specifies that only select schools will have branding this year. Still, this is huge and one has to imagine we’ll see more schools moving forward. It also goes without saying that the college experience and high-school experience being integral to your RTTS-ballplayer adds the skeleton for the immersion many have been waiting for.
To me, this implies that first-person gameplay will be available across the entire game; not just in RTTS. This obviously needs to be confirmed, but this is right up the alley of additions I mentioned in my Five Things I Want To See article.
This is what piqued my interest the most. Franchise: Front-Office Experience sounds like something akin to Owner/Dynasty mode. This implies a legitimate, sweeping overhaul to the operational side of MLB organizations. If this includes expansion teams/relocation, on top of more in-depth gameplay within the mode, then SDS will have cooked up my literal biggest want for MLB The Show 25.
ShowTech sounds like SDS’ iteration of animation/gameplay technology. Other sports games have been utilizing new technology that utilizes real footage of the sport and players, providing more realistic and fluid animations. This is something that would improve the visuals and feel of The Show’s gameplay tenfold.
I didn’t really dig into RTTS much the last couple years, so if this isn’t new you can roast me in the comments. But it appears we have some type of gesture-system that grants the player the ability to perform different slide variations manually.
Diamond Quest is a brand-new mode in Diamond Dynasty. It’s described as roguelike and is a clear innovation for The Show. Visually, it brings back memories of the mini-games from MVP Baseball. Very interested to learn more about this mode.
It looks like we’re finally getting a Weekend League! From glancing at the graphic, it’s unclear if it’s folded into Ranked or will operate separately. Either way, this is absolutely huge.
Finally, here is the official game listing from various stores as the game is now available for pre-order.
The official Legends trailer will release closer to launch, but we did get a sneak peek at three huge legends coming this year:
Roger Clemens. I’ll be that guy and point out that “skinny” Clemens never played for the Yankees. We’ve seen some player model issues in the past (Mark McGwire recently) so hopefully this gets corrected in the final release. Still, Clemens has been one of the most requested legends and should be an absolute demon on the mound.
Manny being Manny in MLB The Show 25. Another hugely requested legend finally makes his debut.
Cool Papa Bell. One of the most storied Negro League legends we haven’t seen until now. He should be front and center in Storylines Season 3.
Quite the eventful morning with news. We didn’t get a whimper of a trailer, as we learned big and small details. Aluminum bats with accurate sound will be a blast to experience, and hopefully we get some kind of integration with Diamond Dynasty online.
For a 20th anniversary celebration of the franchise, SDS is off to a white-hot start and I can’t wait to learn more about this year’s game.
What was your favorite part of the gameplay trailer?
