It was just a week ago that we got details on the Deluxe Editions of MLB The Show 22, but SDS is wasting no time dropping big news on us!
Randy Johnson and Ryan Howard Announced as New Legends

In the first gameplay video we’ve seen of MLB The Show 22, SDS snuck in a couple nice surprises – in the form of new legends Randy Johnson and Ryan Howard!
For years, fans have been screaming for Randy Johnson to be added to the game – we even speculated what a Big Unit card might look like – and that wish has finally been granted (although, batting playing against this card may not be fun…).
Ryan Howard actually graced the cover of MLB 08, however, he has not been in an MLB The Show game since 2017.
What other new legends will be in the game?
Has of the writing of this article, no legends besides Johnson and Howard have been confirmed – however, there is some speculation about who we may see.
One of the pre-order bonuses for the Digital Deluxe Edition is a “Cover Athlete Diamond Choice Pack”. This has led many to speculate we may see previous cover athletes – such as David Wright or Joe Mauer – return to the game.
True Two-Way Player Functionality is Here!
During his “Flipping Bats” podcast, Ben Verlander interviewed Ramone Russell from SDS about MLB The Show 22. When discussing cover athlete Shohei Ohtani, Ramone revealed that in MLB The Show 22, you would be able to use Ohtani as a two way player. We assume this means if you do not have Ohtani on the mound, you can play him in the field and vice versa.
"Finally in @MLBTheShow 2022, you will be able to use Shohei Ohtani the exact same way the Angels use him."

Since Shohei is the cover athlete this year, it only makes sense to introduce the two-way player feature this year.
