The first official gameplay trailer for MLB The Show 25 lands on Tuesday, February 4. Outside of the announcement and some generic verbiage, there obviously hasn’t been anything substantial released yet.
Some eagle-eyed gamers noticed that the Playstation listing for the game features some fresh screenshots from the upcoming release.
At first glance, many are questioning if there’s tangible improvements to be found. I understand the critical view that many might have, as a pretty common thread amongst gamers is the quality of a game’s graphics.
Our boy Scann did his best to recreate the screenshots in MLB The Show 24, and there’s certainly noticeable improvements in the lighting.
I made some side-by-sides from MLB 24.

The lighting is noticeably different, which affects literally ever pixel we look at. The images are crisper as well, which is probably what most gamers should expect moving forward.
The player models do leave a bit to be desired, as has always been the case. For me, the area I’d like to see a noticeable improvement is with animations and player models. The fluidity of animations, combined with photorealistic lighting, will make everything pop and feel more alive. On my 4K OLED monitor, the full-size images have weight and texture that many might be overlooking. Yordan’s batting gloves have visible textured material, which adds the weight. You can also see the grain on his bat and this is where the lighting alone will make the game feel more alive.
I suspect we’ll get a glimpse of any improvements there when we see the gameplay trailer in a couple days. Remember, this is the first batch of screenshots and all we’ve seen so far. Snap judgments are what social media do best, but let’s see what the gameplay trailer looks like before we’re certain how the game looks.
What do you think? Are you disappointed in these early screenshots (without even seeing the game in action)? How important are visual enhancements to you in comparison to the rest of the game?
