Buster Posey goes on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time this winter, and most voters and writers expect him to get in on the first try. The 2010 NL Rookie of the Year and 2012 NL MVP caught for three World Series champions in five seasons, and the comparison most people make is Joe Mauer, who went in on his first ballot in 2024. Results are announced in January 2027, so here are his best rookie cards and what they sell for now.
Prices updated October 2026. Each figure is the average of the card's three most recent PSA-graded sales tracked by Card Ladder, or its most recent sale where fewer exist. Population counts are from GemRate as of October 2026.

The Best Buster Posey Rookie Cards
1. 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects #BDPP128 Autograph (PSA 10 – $1,500, PSA 9 – $470)

Posey's 1st Bowman Chrome autograph is the card that matters most in his market, and it isn't close. Of his 40 highest sales on Card Ladder, 27 are this card in one of its parallels. The base version is on-card, signed during his first pro season after the Giants drafted him fifth overall in 2008, and PSA 9s sell almost every month.
The parallels are where the money is. Here are the most recent notable sales for each:
- Superfractor 1/1: $267,032 (PSA 9, January 2026), his highest public sale
- Red Refractor /5: $35,400 (PSA 9, August 2026); a copy sold for $45,600 in 2023
- Orange Refractor /25: $19,800 (PSA 10, August 2026)
- Gold Refractor /50: $9,900 to $15,200 (BGS 9.5, 2025–26; there's almost no PSA 10 market)
- Blue Refractor /150: $4,200 (PSA 10, 2021)
- Base auto: about $1,500 in PSA 10 and $470 in PSA 9
If he's elected on his first ballot in January, this is the card most likely to move first. With 65 PSA 10s out of 206 graded copies, the base auto is also scarcer in gem condition than most collectors expect.
2. 2010 Topps Chrome Wrapper Redemption #221 Green Refractor Autograph /10 (PSA 10 – $8,100, July 2024 sale)

Topps Chrome didn't include Posey in packs in 2010. His Chrome rookie came through a wrapper redemption program, which is why the refractors carry "Wrapper Redemption" on PSA's labels. The Green Refractor autograph is numbered to just 10, and a PSA 10 sold for $8,100 in July 2024, the most for any of his rookie-year cards.
3. 2010 Topps Heritage Real One Autographs #ROABP Red Ink /61 (BGS 9 – $5,269, December 2024 sale)

Heritage's Real One autographs are signed on-card in the style of 1961 Topps, and the red-ink version is numbered to 61, a nod to that design year. It's the most popular Posey rookie-year auto outside of Chrome, and a BGS 9 brought $5,269 in December 2024. The standard blue-ink Real One is a cheaper way into the same design.
4. 2010 Topps #2 Black /59 (SGC 9 – $4,469, September 2025 sale)

The black-bordered parallel of his flagship rookie is numbered to 59, and no PSA 10 exists. PSA has graded only 12 copies. The most recent sale was an SGC 9 at $4,469 in September 2025.
Be careful when shopping for this one: Topps also made an unnumbered Wal-Mart Black Border version of #2 that looks similar and sells for a small fraction of the price. The real /59 is serial-numbered on the back.
5. 2008 Bowman Sterling Prospects #BSP-BP Autograph (PSA 9 – $220, BGS 9.5 – $619)

Bowman Sterling was the high-end prospect product of the time, and Posey's 2008 Sterling auto is one of his best-looking early cards. PSA 9s sell for about $220, and BGS 9.5 copies with 10 autographs have brought $372 to $619 recently. No PSA 10 has sold publicly, and only 29 exist.

6. 2010 Topps Chrome Wrapper Redemption #221 Refractor (PSA 10 – $430, PSA 9 – $140)

This is his only Topps Chrome rookie, and every copy is a refractor because of how the redemption worked. It grades well (70% of PSA copies are 10s), and PSA 10s have risen to around $430. For a lot of collectors, this is the best balance of brand, scarcity and price in his rookie lineup.
7. 2010 Bowman #208 (PSA 10 – $360, PSA 9 – $35)

The paper Bowman rookie has a dark border that chips easily, and only 17% of PSA-graded copies are 10s. That's why PSA 10s sell for about twice as much as his flagship Topps rookie, while PSA 9s stay cheap.
8. 2010 Topps Heritage #114 (PSA 10 – $200, PSA 9 – $55)

The base Heritage rookie uses the classic 1961 Topps design and is one of the most popular Posey rookies with set collectors. PSA 9 prices fell from about $100 in April to around $55 in late summer, so this is a good time to buy one.
9. 2010 Topps #2 (PSA 10 – $180, PSA 9 – $25)

The flagship Topps rookie is the card most people mean when they say "Buster Posey rookie card," and it's the most liquid of the group, with PSA 10s and 9s selling every week. Almost 2,000 PSA 10s exist, so it will never be scarce, but it's the card new fans buy after a big moment like a Hall of Fame election.
10. 2010 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects #BDP61 (PSA 10 – $180, PSA 9 – $30)

His Bowman Chrome rookie from the 2010 Draft set is an affordable Chrome option. Watch for the paper version of #BDP61 in listings, since titles often leave out "Chrome."
11. 2010 Topps Allen & Ginter #294 (PSA 10 – $90, PSA 9 – $20)

Allen & Ginter's old-fashioned design and matte finish make this one of the best-looking budget Posey rookies, and a PSA 10 still costs under $100.
