Common Questions
What is True Overall?
True Overall is ShowZone's proprietary rating that reveals the real value of a card beyond the 99 cap in MLB The Show. The in-game overall caps at 99, so two cards displayed as 99 can have dramatically different underlying attributes. True Overall uses a position-weighted formula to surface those differences.
How is True Overall different from the in-game overall?
The in-game overall is hard-capped at 99 and uses a generic formula. True Overall removes the cap and weights attributes by position — so a shortstop gets more credit for fielding and speed, while a designated hitter gets more credit for power and contact. This gives you a realistic ranking when comparing two "99 overall" cards.
Why do two cards with the same in-game overall have different True Overalls?
Because the in-game overall caps at 99. One card might have a raw overall of 102 while another has 115 — both display as 99. True Overall reveals the actual ceiling, which is especially useful for ranking diamond and live series cards in Diamond Dynasty.
Can I use True Overall to compare players at different positions?
Yes, but remember that True Overall is position-weighted. A catcher and a right fielder will use different weights, so True Overall is most useful when comparing players at the same position or when deciding whether to swap one player for another at the same spot.
Is the True Overall formula free to use?
Yes. The calculator is 100% free on ShowZone. You can calculate True Overall for any custom stat line or browse pre-calculated True Overalls across our player database.
